What and when to wear
PERFUMES FOR DIFFERENT SEASONS
To a novice, it would sound absurd as to how does it matter what perfume when to wear. It does, at least not to the wearer but the people in close proximity to them. Every perfume is characterized with different notes and they all behave differently in heat. They can either enhance the smell, longevity of the overall perfume or totally nauseate the wearer to the extent they cannot stand the smell of it. Below are few pointers, one can consider to wearing a fragrance according to the season they're in.
- SUMMERS- A typical summer day, most often than not brings with it scorching heat that burns us to our bones. We do what we can to keep ourselves cool in whichever way. Certain fragrances invokes that feeling of a cool, calm and green outdoors which brings us closer to the beach even when we're far away from them. These scents are most often very airy and light to our noses. Citrus, marine and green notes are what one should look for in a fragrance in high heat. Heavy notes like vanilla, oud, musk, tobacco etc can get very cloying due to higher temperatures. These notes, like others, will evaporate at a faster rate and can jam your nose, sometimes inducing a headache. For example, Davidoff Cool Water, Azzaro Chrome, Acqua di Gio, Bvlgari Amara.
- MONSOON - Can you name that person who doesn't like the smell of rain? Tough, almost impossible ain't it? Ohhh! the smell invokes that childhood nostalgia where we played and splashed around in the rains with our friends in our tiny tiny shorts. Luckily for us, we live in times where perfumers can master any form of smell and have it bottled for us for a fraction, or in some cases, in exorbitant amounts of cash. Mitti Attar( comes in both attar and perfume form) has gained a lot of popularity lately as the smell reminds us of the first drop of rain on a moist/wet sand. Every brand/perfumer have their own take and most are bang on the money. This is also the perfect season where you can play around and experiment with your perfumes. Higher humidity can make or break your fragrance's personality. Citrus based fragrances are perfect for the day time. For night, you can juggle with lighter notes or dare yourself to go with something like a vanilla or an amber based scent. Applied in right amount, they'll make you shine brighter even more than you usually do. Narciso Rodriguez for Him EDP, Calvin Klein Obsession, Guerlain Shalimar, Amouage Lyric Man are few examples off of many.
- WINTER - This is the time when you pull out your most daring of scents out in the forefront. A fragrance has to scream out of the thick layers of clothing we put on to have it's effect on us and people around us. You can either put them directly on your skin's pulse points or on clothes itself as long as they are not light in color which can in most cases, put a stain on your attire. In my opinion, you wear a perfume that best accentuates your personality. Fruity, gourmand, rose, chocolate, tobacco, you name it, any of such type of a scent will mesmerize most around you. The cooler weather helps the scent stay on our skin/fabric a little longer than in warmer months. Less heat means less evaporation of the alcohol from our skin thus increasing a perfumes longevity. Also the evolution of a perfume is smooth as the perfumer intended it to be. Dior Homme Parfum, Burberry London, Mugler Alien Essence, Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille are some of the power hitters one can consider for winters.
NOTE :- There is no hard and fast rule as to what one should wear in which season. Just like perfumes are gender neutral, we can wear whatever, whenever we want as per our mood and occasion. However, one should consider the above pointers to get the best out of your scented water.
